Picnic in the Park

A picnic in London designed to promote organic food and protest against GM, had to be cancelled last Sunday due to over-subscription. The event, sponsored by Greenpeace, was set to feature George Michael, Sadie Frost and Anthony Worrall-Thompson and had hoped that a number of Primrose Hill Park's celebrity neighbours would also have been able to attend. Birgit Cunningham, one of the organisers suggested that as many as 8,000 people had expressed an interest, all in a week where The friends of the Royal Park Forum have warned us of the hazards posed by large crowds to the ecology of London Parks: "The damage posed by these events to the Parks' fabric and their proper function as a haven of peace and quiet in the middle of London, is incalculable." The picnic is set to be rescheduled later on in the year at a larger park where a variety of environmental issues will be debated while 8,000 people trample on London's greenbelt.
